The Heart of Woofs & Words
Communication isn’t just about commands; it’s about a conversation. This project started with a simple question: What if they could actually tell us? Between my own obsession with canine cognition and the brilliance of Bowie and Danzig, Woofs & Words was born. We aren’t just a person and two dogs; we’re a team of researchers, learners, and best friends. Whether we’re at home at the soundboard or using a simple nose-to-hand touch while out on a hike, we are constantly finding new ways to bridge the gap between species.
Bowie: The Wordsmith
If Bowie had a resume, "Wordsmith" would be at the very top. As a Level 4 communicator, he doesn’t just hit buttons for treats—he navigates an AAC speaking board to construct actual sentences and share his thoughts. Since he joined the family in 2021, this Poodle-Chihuahua mix has been the driving force behind everything we do. He’s the living proof that our dogs have a complex internal world, and he’s more than happy to tell you all about it (literally).
Danzig: The Math Whiz
Danzig might be a Level 3 communicator with a smaller button vocabulary, but what he lacks in sentence structure, he makes up for in sheer logic. This Poodle-Terrier mix is our resident math genius; he has an uncanny knack for numbers that honestly puts most humans to shame. While he’s still mastering his AAC skills, he’s a total pro at the "Nose-to-Hand" touch, ensuring that even when we’re out in the world, his voice—and his impressive brain—are always heard.
